TECH: Introducing SoundSwitch for Serato DJ
One of my biggest issues with the African music industry as a whole is that I feel we are too comfortable. People don't push the boundaries in creativity especially when it comes to live shows and performances. People are ok with the minimum, cash their cheques and move on. This is not the case internationally, where you have performers going overboard to produce the best shows possible, many times even going past their earnings for the show. The idea is to creation a show fans and promoters like and would hire you for and then tak on the expensis, at least this is how I see it. Enough of the preaching for now and back to the matter at hand. I present to you Soundwitch for Serato DJ.
Soundswitch is a software (and hardware) that works along side Serato DJ to control DMX lights. Unlike the regular sound activated settings you find on most lights, with Soundswitch each song can have its on personalized and customized light show.
For example, Fat Joe and Remy Ma’s “All the Way Up” can be programmed in such a way that when French Montana says “Nothing Can Stop Me”, all the lights face the floor and is red and when the beat comes back in all the lights go crazy! Now this is very impressive and can be lots of fun but to be honest it looks way to time consuming and way to much work. I personally have over 25,000 songs in my library, there is no way I am going to program light shows for each song. I see this more for performers who tour with their own music and play 1-2hour sets of the same songs and cant afford a large team with light designers and all. Great technology. Would be great to see what DJs can come up with using Soundswitch with Serato DJ.
